Who are we and why do we exist?

What are we?

We’re Princess Beef Heavy Industries (or as we call it ‘pb33f’), we build beautifully designed heavy-duty and enterprise grade software for code hackers and software engineers.

We’re highly experienced misfit engineers, who want to bring the power of big tech, to the rest of us.

When we say ‘we’. It’s just ‘me’ (Quobix). Well, me and my OSS friends, sponsors and contributors.

Why do we exist?

After years of suffering through the use of poorly designed, buggy and slow tools, it was time to do something about it.

We’re here to make software tools sexy and fun.

We’re here to make software tools slick and seamless.

We’re here to make software tools solid and scalable.

We’re here to make software tools so good, and so reliable, that engineers will carry our tools with them throughout their careers and companies will build their businesses on top of them.

Our tools are all open source, and we’re here to build a community of like-minded engineers who want to build beautiful and easy to use software.

We focus on code hackers and engineers who need lightweight, but heavy duty tools that are fast and reliable.

What do we believe?

Why the pink and blue neon colors and stuff?

Looks pretty cool right? Can’t get away with this in a big tech company. I’ve always loved 70’s, 80’s and 90’s inspired hacker movies.

I always love to pause them during the moments when someone has just blurted “I’m In!” in their best hacker voice.

I love to see make-believe hacker terminals with neon colors and fake code scrolling by. It looks cool, but it’s junk… right?

What if it could be real? For a real product?

So. My dream is to see this UI used as a prop in some future hacker movie or TV show.

What’s with the name?

When my daughter was two, she wanted to watch a TV show called Blaze and the Monster Machines. She loved the show and wanted to watch it frequently.

For some reason, she called it “Princess Beef”. There is no mention of princesses, or beef in the show.

I loved the name, originally thinking it would be a great name for a band. However I am old, and fat now. My rockstar days are over.

So I called my company Princess Beef Heavy Industries, LLC.

Why heavy industries?

Back in the 90’s I was a small-time member of the hacker community. I was mostly mouth and no trousers.

As as teenager, I looked up to hacker groups like cDc, L0pht, and others.

I was sad to see L0pht Heavy Industries go, they had the coolest name. And I wanted to pay homage to them.

Why pb33f?

princessb33f. The 33 is a nod to my hacker roots. Also it’s way easier to type.
